For the last 50 years, the Kawasaki KXTM series has contributed to the success of contemporary motocross legends. The KX450 remains one of the top motocross motorcycles in its category, and the KX family of motorcycles still ranks among the most popular supercross and motocross brands today. The wholly redesigned KX450, which took its development cues from the Monster Energy Kawasaki factory racing team, is one of the most potent off-road vehicles available. The 2024 model year introduces completely new features, such as a new cylinder head, lightweight aluminum frame, center exhaust, and first-time Kawasaki KX features, like ODI Lock-On grips, Brembo brakes, Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), riding modes with a handlebar-mounted switch box, and Bluetooth connectivity through the Rideology app.
A downdraft intake layout with aligned intake and exhaust provides strong overrun and smooth low-rpm torque. Redesigned intake allows a straighter path for air-fuel mix, and a central exhaust port improves airflow efficiency, enhancing performance.
Being able to restart an engine quickly during a race can mean the difference between keeping your lead or having to fight your way back through the pack. Electric start makes restarting the engine as easy as pushing a button.
A hydraulic clutch provides direct feel and easy lever action. It has less play with heat, giving a more consistent feeling. Coned-disc springs help with lighter actuation and a wider engagement range, improving control, especially when half-clutching.
A new frame allows for updates to the engine’s intake and exhaust systems, enhancing handling and cornering performance.
Brake components feature drilled braking/sunstar discs (270/240 mm), a Brembo caliper and master cylinder in front, and a Nissin caliper and master cylinder in the rear. This high-performance system improves brake control for better corner entry.
Factory-style 49mm inverted coil-spring front fork and New Uni Trak rear suspension offer race-ready suspension performance and adjustability to let riders tune their settings to suit conditions.
A choice of four handlebar positions and two footpeg positions lets riders adjust their riding position for comfort. The 28.6 mm (1-1/8”) Renthal aluminium Fatbar reduces vibration and shocks, with a lower grip position helping to weight the front wheel.
Medium-compound ODI Lock-On Grips offer excellent grip feel, while their screw-type fastening system greatly facilitates the task of swapping grips.
The left side cover can be removed without tools, facilitating access to the air filter element. The element is now secured with quick-release hooks (previously a wing bolt), which makes changing the air filter a much simpler task.
The Power Mode selection button—a first for Kawasaki KX models—replaces the DFI couplers used on the previous model. Using the Mode (M) button on the left handlebar, riders can quickly and easily switch between two engine maps (Normal, Mild response) provided in the ECU.
Using the Traction (T) button on the left handlebar, riders can quickly and easily select from two levels (Weak, Strong) of traction control to suit conditions and preference. Riders may also elect to turn the system off.
Using the smartphone application “RIDEOLOGY THE APP KX,” riders are able to access and adjust their bike’s engine maps. Functionality (adjusting fuel and ignition timing) is similar to that offered by the accessory KX FI Calibration Kit used with previous models. Maintenance and setup logs are also available.
