Not all tank grips are the same, and choice is usually down to rider preference. Top Tip!
Black grips look better on a black tank, whereas the clear grips can appear a little blue. Black grips can also look better on a pure white tank, whereas the clear grips can appear a little yellow.
Clear grips are optimised for colours other than black and pure white tanks.
Application hints!
- Firstly, use an IPA cleaner to prepare surface area. NO methylated spirits/petrol/lighter fluid as these leave behind a thin, greasy residue.
- Peel back part of the release liner then press the tank grip firmly onto the tank and slowly peel back the liner whilst applying the grip. Push down the surface and take care not to trap air bubbles as you go. Allow 48 hours for the adhesive to fully bond before using the grips. For best results, ensure the prepared surface is above 10oC.

This is a great product. Unlike some other products, the rubber itself has a degree of friction even without the nodules so provides plenty of inherent purchase / stiction to brace off. My only very slight beef is that for my bike Z1000SX, the shape of the product was cut to suit a part of the tank closer to the rider, so someone with short legs. I needed to put mine further back on the tank, right up into the undercut area. It fits well enough and black grips on black tank make it harder to see any imperfection in the outline. The second piece that fits on the frame fairing can't be placed that far back, so the two pieces are misaligned. The install doesn't look shmick, but again, black on black makes it harder to see. Proof of the pudding though is that it gives you a rock solid area to lock onto for maximum stability, and that to me is function over form. Well worth it.
