Sugomi Design

Condensed, dynamic form. Intense Glare. A key visual component is the LED headlamp cowl which was positioned as low as possible, extending the line running down from the top of the tank to create the image of a crouching predator’s muscular shoulders and dropped head. The condensed, dynamic form is reinforced by all-new bodywork that fits much closer to the engine and frame. As before mass is concentrated at the front, with the light tail cowl a mere wisp, as if drawn with the flick of a pen.

Revised ECU settings contribute to an even smoother power delivery, facilitating control and contributing to rider comfort and confidence, and deliver cleaner emissions, ensuring Euro 4 regulations are cleared. The highly rigid aluminium frame features a high degree of mass centralisation, creating a balance between sharp turning and firm handling. Modified linkage ratio increases rear wheel travel by 13 mm to 135 mm and delivers in suppler rear suspension action. Shock absorption is improved and the rear feels more planted.

Assist & Slipper Clutch was developed based on feedback from racing activities. The clutch uses two types of cams (an assist cam and a slipper cam), offering lighter lever pressure and back-torque limiter function for smooth down changes.

The Cool Air system routes cool air to the airbox from ducts at the front of the side fairings, minimising performance loss due to heated intake air. The carefully crafted auditory note of the intake is a key component of the street riding exhilaration offered by the Z1000. A resonator inside the airbox reduces noise at low rpm, and enhances intake sound at high rpm.

This was the first time for Kawasaki to use the reflector-less LED headlamp design. Using LED lamps allows the design to be thin, the shape contributing to the more intense glare of the Z1000’s face, and the reflector-less design further enhances its predatory appearance.

The bodywork of the Z1000 creates a lean image it compared to its predecessor. The design trims bulk and unnecessary design flourishes to highlight the functionality of the bike’s parts. The bodywork is fit to the bike with much tighter tolerances – space between the bodywork and engine/frame is minimised – adding to the high quality image

The Z1000's front seat features a “Z” pattern seat cover material, adding a high-quality touch. Rear seat shape is integrated into that of the front seat. The compact pillion pad was designed to have the appearance of a single-seat cover, adding to the sporty look of the compact tail section
